The Livingston Parish Library is partnering with Family Resource Group for the 20th Annual Sock It To Me! Holiday Sock Drive.

Held every year during the holiday season, the Sock It to Me! Holiday Sock Drive takes place in the Greater Baton Rouge area, including East Baton Rouge, Livingston, Ascension, Pointe Coupee, Iberville, and West Baton Rouge parishes.

People can drop off new, unused socks at participating businesses, libraries, schools, churches, or childcare centers. Socks in sizes nfant to adult are accepted.

All donations go to the less fortunate.

Socks are the most requested item at homeless shelters, according to Family Resource Group.

“The Sock It To Me! Sock Drive is an easy and impactful way for the community to come together and help those in need,” Family Resource Group said in a statement. “With the ongoing support of local businesses, schools, churches, libraries, universities, and civic organizations, we collect thousands of pairs of socks to distribute to children and adults facing hardship.”

This year’s sock drive runs from October 1 through December 6. The 2024 goal for the entire sock drive is to collect 50,000 pairs of socks.

LPL donations going toward The Family Village

To ensure donations stay in the Livingston Parish community, all socks collected by the Livingston Parish Library will be donated to The Family Village, a Livingston Parish-based non-profit organization.

Founded in 2018, The Family Village provides necessities to children who have been separated from their homes in a traumatic event. The items are provided free of charge to children of all ages, ranging from newborns to teenagers and young adults.

On average, The Family Village serves more than five children per day.

“At The Family Village, our mission is to provide essential support and resources to children in need within our community, ensuring they have the necessities to thrive,” The Family Village states on its website. “We serve children in foster care, those at risk of entering foster care, and those who have experienced traumatic events such as natural disasters, domestic violence, or the loss of a parent.

“Through our comprehensive case management and our boutique-style clothing closet offering everything from beds and bedding to clothing, formula, and diapers, we strive to meet the individual needs of each child.”
