The Livingston Parish Library invites you to the 9.5th Annual LPL Comic Con on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
This is one of YOUR Library's most popular events, giving visitors from Livingston Parish and beyond a chance to "totally geek out" at a family-friendly event that is open to all.
What is Comic Con?
Inspired by the annual mega-event that takes place in San Diego, the LPL Comic Con is a celebration of all things comic book, movie, television, and pop culture! Want to cosplay as your favorite character? Why not? Want to “totally geek out” over the latest issue of your favorite comic? Feel free. No matter your fandom, Comic Con is the place to celebrate it.

Calling all local vendors and community organizations!
Are you interested in participating in the 9.5th Annual Livingston Parish Library Comic Con?
Applications to participate in the annual celebration at the Denham Springs-Walker Branch will open on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025.
Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
There is no cost to participate in Comic Con.

<strong>How to Apply</strong>
No pre-registration is required — just sign up in person on the day of the contest. Registration is free and open to all, but space is limited. Participation in the event will be dependent on available spots.
Applications must be submitted in person at the Cosplay Contest Sign-Up Table before noon on March 29, 2025, at Comic Con.
Applicants aged 17 and under must register with guardian consent.
Costumes must follow event guidelines, including appropriate content and safety restrictions.
Contestants will provide their name, character, and series at sign-up.
<strong>Costume Rules</strong>
To ensure a fun and safe experience for all participants, please follow these guidelines:

Family-Friendly Costumes Only – Costumes must be appropriate for all ages. Library staff will determine suitability. If you’re unsure about your costume, email krobertson@mylpl.info before the event.

Recognizable Characters Only – Original characters (OCs) are not permitted. Costumes must represent characters from an established fandom.

No Nudity or Illusions of Nudity – Costumes must provide full coverage. Any design that creates the illusion of nudity is not allowed.

No Profanity – This includes offensive language or imagery on clothing.

No Obscene or Offensive Costumes – Costumes that contain inappropriate, suggestive, or offensive elements are not allowed.

No Scary or Intimidating Costumes – Outfits that could be considered overly frightening or disturbing to attendees are prohibited.

Prop Weapon Guidelines –
- Only lightweight materials (foam, cardboard, or thin wood) are allowed.
- Props must not look realistic enough to be mistaken for actual weapons.
- Prohibited: Live steel, heavy materials, functioning weapons, or props that were once functional weapons.

Footwear is Required – For safety reasons, all participants must wear shoes.
- If your character is typically barefoot, consider flesh-toned or clear shoes to maintain accuracy.
- Socks and bare feet are not allowed.
Failure to follow these rules may result in disqualification. Thank you for helping us keep the contest safe and enjoyable for everyone!
<strong>Judging and Procedures</strong>
Overall Guidelines
Participants in this contest do not have to meet a certain percentage of craftsmanship to enter. However, crafted costumes, props, and etc., are highly encouraged.

Each division will have a winner and an honorary mention.

Scoring Criteria (Total: 100 points)
Each judge scores out of 50 points, and their scores are combined for the final total.
Procedure

Review the Rules: All participants should read the contest rules and instructions before entering.

Pre-Judging Check-In: Stop by the Judges' Table(s) before 12:45 p.m. to participate in pre-judging. Then, check back in at the Cosplay Contest Sign-Up Table at 12:55 p.m. to receive your contestant number.

Catwalk Presentation: Confirmed contestants will showcase their cosplay on stage during the catwalk, starting promptly at 1:15 p.m. on March 29, 2025, during Comic Con.

Judging Process: Judges will evaluate each cosplay based on the scoring criteria. Final Judging will take place between the catwalk and the award announcements.

Award Announcements: Winners will be announced immediately after the catwalk concludes. If your name is called, step forward to receive your award. You must be present to win.
<strong>Meet the Judges</strong>
Shiratori Hime Cosplay is a professional costumer / Mardi Gras artisan and an award-winning cosplayer. With a decade of experience, she is more than happy to share her well of sewing knowledge with the masses.
DragonfireCosplay is a seasoned Louisiana-based cosplayer of over twelve years. In addition to cosplaying, DragonfireCosplay designs costumes and fashion with a focus on curvy and plus-sized designs. Interests include, but are not limited to, Disney Princesses, anime and manga characters, and other animated fandoms such as Nintendo and Pokemon. DragonfireCosplay was featured at Fan Expo New Orleans (Jan 2024), Louisiana Retro Con (Sept 2023), and Ba-Con Anime Convention (July 2023). The most prominent award received is Best in Show for Cosplayers at Mid-City Micro-Con. In addition to cosplaying, DragonfireCosplay is a versatile artist, utilizing mediums such as crochet, UV Resin, foam, and beads.

<strong>Defy Gravity: The Petite Princess Company</strong>
Follow the yellow brick road to your Library for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet Glinda and Elphaba.
The Petite Princess Company, which provides family-friendly party entertainment across south Louisiana, will bring the beloved characters to Comic Con to interact with visitors. They will do a storytime and then pose for photos.
<strong>Experience the Action: Wall-to-Wall Martial Arts</strong>
Get ready for high-energy action at the Library’s Comic Con! Wall-to-Wall Martial Arts will take the stage for a martial arts demonstration, showcasing powerful techniques, dynamic moves, and the discipline behind the craft.
Whether you're a superhero in training or just a martial arts fan, this demo will inspire you. Don’t miss your chance to see real-life skills that bring comic book combat to life!
<strong>Inside the Empire: 501st Legion Panel</strong>
Ever wondered how the galaxy’s most iconic villains bring their costumes to life? Join the 501st Legion at the Library’s Comic Con for an exclusive panel where these elite Star Wars costumers share the secrets behind their screen-accurate armor and gear. Learn about the craftsmanship, dedication, and community that make the 501st the ultimate force in cosplay.
Whether you're a Star Wars superfan or a future trooper looking to join the ranks, this is your chance to go behind the mask! Come for the costumes, stay for the stories — this is the way!
<strong>Vendors</strong>
The Livingston Parish Library does not cover product or service liability for any purchased merchandise, sale of tangible or intangible goods, transfer of property, or other transactions entered into between patrons and vendors at library-hosted events.
The library is not a stakeholder or beneficiary of the proceeds of third-party vendors. The library shall be held harmless from all claims for any damaged or inferior products, incomplete services, erroneous transactions, or any other claims arising from any purchased merchandise, sale of tangible or intangible goods, transfer of property, or other transactions entered into between patrons and vendors at library-hosted events.
Any claims from the aforementioned acts of sale shall be taken to the vendor for resolution by the transacting patron. The library shall not act as an emissary in any claims that may arise.

<strong>Parking and Shuttle Service</strong>
Parking Instructions
- Comic Con will be held at Denham Springs-Walker Branch (8101 U.S. Hwy. 190, Denham Springs, LA 70726).
- Library’s front parking lot (facing U.S. Highway 190) will be OPEN to handicap accessible permits and general public.
- Overflow parking will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (865 Hatchell Lane, Denham Springs, LA 70726)
- Note: For overflow parking, please park in the lot in front of the Faith Education Building. Avoid the lot directly in front of the church entrance.
- Library’s back parking lot (along Eden Church Road) will be CLOSED to the public.
Shuttle Service
- Shuttle service will be available for Comic Con attendees from 10:00 a.m. - 3 p.m.
- Two shuttles will travel back and forth between Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Denham Springs-Walker Branch.
- Shuttles will travel in 15-minute intervals. Drop-off point at the library will be the front parking lot.
