LPL Announces No Fines For Youth Accounts

The Livingston Parish Library is excited to announce it will no longer charge overdue fines on juvenile and teen patron accounts in an effort to allow children and teens greater access to the library’s databases, resources, and services. The change will take effect on October 1.

Quick Facts

  • The new policy will only affect teen and juvenile accounts. All other accounts are still subject to overdue fines.
  • Items on ALL accounts that are not returned within 45 days of their due date will be considered “lost” and the full cost of the item will be charged to the patron’s account. “Lost” items can be returned to reverse charges.
  • The total number of items allowed to be checked out on ALL accounts has been increased from 15 to 20 items.

The goal is to remove barriers that prohibit younger patrons from utilizing the library’s resources. Recent studies show that avoiding overdue fines is not an incentive for returning items in a timely manner and often becomes a barrier for students. We believe that providing youth continued access to resources is paramount to their future, especially during their developmental years.

Renew Your Items

We encourage all patrons to return materials in a timely manner. Ensuring items are available for all is an important function of the library. Instead of allowing items to become overdue, you can simply renew them by visiting the library in-person, contacting the library via telephone, or online by visiting our website and logging into your account.
